Prof. Luitgard Schwendenmann：For my MSc (Resources Engineering, University of Karlsruhe, Germany), I studied sediment nutrient flow in a mangrove ecosystem in Brazil. For my PhD (University of Goettingen, Germany), I investigated the belowground carbon dynamics of a tropical forest in Costa Rica. After my PhD, I was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Wyoming (USA), where I examined the impact of land use change on soil carbon cycling and trace gas fluxes in Panama. Before joining the University of Auckland in 2010, I was a research fellow at the University of Goettingen, Germany, studying water uptake patterns in tree plantations and cacao agroforests in Panama and Indonesia. Prof. Elham Bahmanteymouri：Elham has qualifications in urban and regional planning and design as well as urban economics. She is an urban planner and urban economist with 16 years of professional experience. Elham’s research primarily focuses on urban planning economics, economics of incomplete markets, planning theory, political economy of space, and behavioral economics. She has particular expertise in the provision of urban growth management policies and the economic assessment of housing and urban development policies. Additionally, she investigates the causes and consequences of the failures of planning policies. Through the deployment of a Lacanian (post-)Marxist approach, her recent research addresses urban phenomena and suggests solutions to urban problems such as housing unaffordability and uneven urban development. Dr. Emilio Garcia：Dr. Emilio Garcia’s research focuses on the application of ecological resilience to urban landscapes. In 2008, he won a Holcim Award for Sustainable Construction. Over the last six years, he has researched resilience in relation to compactness, adaptability, inequality, inheritance, and processes of persistence and change in built environments. He is currently finishing the book "Unravelling sustainability and resilience in the built environment" with Professor Brenda Vale, which will be published by Routledge in January 2017.
